This acts as a weight to keep the top layer of fabric from lifting and deters damage to the under layers of the kilt. Cool idea (a world gone permanently dark, with contagious monsters) and great artwork...the story was a little hard to follow at times, but as I got further in, I realized that these first six issues were clearly part of a larger story.
