You just slide the paper towels over the ring, use the ring to move from spot to spot, and the base edges are perfectly smooth. THIS was well thought-out. Bravo. One had such sharp edges on the base I knew I'd cut myself. So this one is the one for a safe, simple, elegant, easy use. We got ours in black to match our kitchen--perfect.
